Family Therapy can help those in close relationships to better understand and support each
other. It enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each
other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on family strengths, and work together to
make useful changes in their relationships and their lives.
Every family is a bit like a human body. Sometimes it feels great, and things work well. Sometimes even small
things can feel like a huge challenge. When we hurt one part of our body, every part can be affected in some
way. But all the parts of the body can work together to help if a bone gets broken, or if there’s an infection. So
family therapy helps family members to work together when something is hurting, or just feeling out of sorts.
Play Therapy is a mode of therapy that helps children to explore their feelings, to express
themselves and make sense of their life experiences.
Sometimes it is difficult to put our feelings into words, even as adults. This is the same for children. Sometimes
they do not have the vocabulary to talk about what is going on for them. This is where play comes in. For
children, play is one of the most powerful ways of communicating and working things out. Play therapy enables
the child or young person to explore their difficulties & understand them, often allowing them to alter their
perspective, so that they are less likely to blame themselves for any of the difficulties they are facing.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from
the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences by using bilateral
stimulation such as eye movements (left to right).
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from
physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated
injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR
therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes.
